Stats
Bio
Born in Israel and arriving in Melbourne at age eight with no English, Mordi Bromberg was a unique recruit from Brighton Grammar who balanced VFL football with demanding legal studies. A dashing, long-haired defender who typically lined up in the back pocket, he was known for his energetic bursts out of defence and became a cult figure at Moorabbin despite a relatively short playing tenure. His time at St Kilda was complicated by a falling out with coach Mike Patterson, which saw him briefly step away to play for AJAX in the amateurs and unsuccessfully request a clearance to Richmond in 1979. Bromberg eventually returned to the Saints' senior side but retired after the 1981 season to pursue his legal ambitions full-time, ultimately establishing a distinguished career as a judge on the Federal Court of Australia.
