Recruited from Swan Districts with pick 23 in the 2011 National Draft, Murray Newman was a gifted small forward known for his pace and natural goal sense. However, his time at West Coast was severely interrupted by off-field legal troubles, most notably a prison sentence served in 2014 for an assault conviction that forced him to miss an entire season of football. Although the Eagles supported him during his incarceration and he managed an emotional return to the senior side for the final round of the 2015 season, Newman was unable to secure a long-term future at the elite level and was delisted shortly after.
