Bio
Selected by Carlton with the sixth overall pick in the 1998 National Draft, Murray Vance was a highly touted key position prospect from the Murray Bushrangers expected to eventually succeed club legend Stephen Silvagni. Despite his elite junior pedigree, he found it difficult to break into a senior lineup that was still contending for finals, spending his first two seasons developing in the reserves. Vance finally earned his AFL debut in 2001, playing five consecutive matches as a tall defender who could occasionally drift forward, but he struggled to adjust to the speed and physical demands of the top level. Unable to cement a spot in the side's best 22, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2001 season, ultimately remembered as a high draft selection who could not translate his potential into a long-term career.
