Bio
Selected by Geelong with pick 10 in the 2014 National Draft, Nakia Cockatoo arrived at the elite level as a dynamic, explosive athlete capable of breaking lines with raw speed and aggression. However, his tenure at the Cats was severely hampered by recurring soft-tissue injuries, preventing him from ever gaining significant continuity despite showing flashes of brilliance. Seeking a fresh start to revitalise his career, he was traded to the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2020. Although he managed to break into the senior side during the 2021 season and featured in a semi-final, Cockatoo struggled to maintain a place in the Lions' best 22 amidst further fitness challenges, eventually retiring at the conclusion of the 2023 season as a talent whose career was unfortunately defined by what might have been.
