Originally drafted to Adelaide via the rookie list from Woodville-West Torrens, Nathan Bock developed from a versatile swingman into one of the competition's premier centre half-backs. While he showed early capability as a marking forward, it was his permanent shift to defence that unlocked his potential, utilising his elite endurance and reading of the play to dominate opponents. His time at the Crows peaked in 2008, where his ability to intercept and rebound earned him All-Australian selection and the club's best and fairest award, the Malcolm Blight Medal.

Bock holds a significant place in AFL history as the first uncontracted player to defect to the Gold Coast Suns ahead of their inaugural season. His departure from Adelaide was a major blow to the Crows, as the Suns viewed him as the defensive pillar required to support their developing teenagers. However, his tenure in Queensland was marred by a horrific leg fracture in 2012 from which he struggled to fully recover. Despite serving as the Suns' vice-captain and providing crucial experience, persistent injury issues limited him to just 27 games for the club before his retirement in 2014.
