Bio
Recruited as a mature-age rookie from Central District, Nathan Grima overcame significant spinal issues to establish himself as a key pillar in North Melbourne's defence. A popular clubman known for his self-deprecating humour, Grima was a reliable stopper who read the play well and spoiled effectively against the competition's taller forwards. His tenure at Arden Street was frequently interrupted by back surgeries, eventually forcing an initial retirement in 2015. However, he made an unexpected return to the elite level the following season, signing with Essendon as a top-up player to provide leadership and cover for the club's suspension-depleted list. Although persistent injuries limited him to fewer than 100 games, Grima remains a cult figure among Kangaroos supporters, largely remembered for his solitary career goal against Collingwood in 2013 and the unbridled celebration that followed.
