Bio
Recruited by Geelong with pick 42 in the 2009 National Draft, Nathan Vardy endured a frustrating start to his career as persistent hip and knee injuries restricted him to just 25 games over seven seasons at Kardinia Park. Seeking a fresh start and greater opportunities, he was traded to West Coast ahead of the 2017 season, where the Eagles were desperately seeking ruck coverage for the injured Nic Naitanui. An athletic tall capable of playing as a genuine ruckman or a marking target inside 50, Vardy capitalised on his new environment to become a structural key during the club's 2018 premiership campaign. While he eventually returned to a depth role upon Naitanui's recovery, his legacy remains defined by the 2018 Grand Final, where he formed a makeshift ruck tandem with Scott Lycett to curb Brodie Grundy and kicked a pivotal set-shot goal in the final quarter to help secure the flag.
