Bio
Originally from Mandurah, Western Australia, Nathan Wilson entered the AFL system as an underage zone selection for Greater Western Sydney, joining the foundation club prior to their inaugural season. While he initially spent time as a small forward, he carved out a niche as a rebounding defender, becoming a key component of the Giants' backline during their preliminary final runs in 2016 and 2017. His defining attribute was his booming right boot, widely regarded as one of the most penetrating kicks in the competition, which allowed him to break lines and turn defence into attack with a single disposal.
Seeking a return to his home state for family reasons, Wilson requested a trade to Fremantle ahead of the 2018 season. He immediately assumed the role of the Dockers' designated distributor out of defence, providing vital run and carry during a rebuilding phase for the club. Although he remained a first-choice defender for several years, the eventual recruitment and development of younger half-backs saw him squeezed out of the best 22. Wilson was delisted at the conclusion of the 2023 season, departing the top level as a damaging ball-user who played a significant role in the defensive setups of two expansion-era lists.
