Bio
Recruited from the Riverina stronghold of Wagga Wagga, Neale Rutzou arrived at Geelong with a reputation as a professional runner. The athletic defender broke into the senior side for the opening two rounds of the 1950 season, featuring in comfortable victories over Hawthorn and Footscray. However, a broken finger stalled his momentum at VFL level, and he subsequently made the decision to return to the bush mid-season rather than fight his way back through the reserves. Rutzou immediately demonstrated his quality upon returning to the Wagga Tigers, finishing runner-up in the Albury & District Football League's Best and Fairest award later that same year.
