Bio
Ned Moran holds a permanent place in the history books as a member of Geelong's inaugural VFL squad in 1897. A depth player called upon during the business end of the foundation season, he made his debut in Round 13 against Fitzroy, coming into a lineup that was already asserting itself as the competition's dominant force. He retained his spot for the following week's thumping victory over St Kilda—where Geelong set a then-league record score—but was unable to break into the side for the finals series where the Pivotonians finished as runners-up. His senior career was ultimately capped at just those two appearances, and he passed away in East Melbourne in 1918 at the relatively young age of 41.
