Stats
Bio
Born in Carlton, Neil Allison was a diminutive footballer who joined Hawthorn during a difficult era for the club in the mid-1930s. Standing just 171cm, he was often one of the smallest men on the ground, utilizing his low centre of gravity to compete against larger opponents. After making his debut in Round 1 of the 1934 season, Allison endured a disjointed start to his career, missing the entire 1935 season before returning to establish himself as a regular fixture in the side between 1936 and 1939. While he never found prolific form in front of the sticks—kicking just two career goals—he provided serviceable depth for the Mayblooms before requesting a clearance to VFA club Coburg in 1939. His football journey was ultimately overshadowed by global events; he enlisted in the Second AIF in 1940 to serve in World War II, and later met a tragic end, dying in a car accident in West Footscray at the age of 50.
