Bio
Recruited from Vermont in the Eastern District Football League, Neil Brunton joined the Sydney Swans with pick 5 in the 1991 Pre-Season Draft. He carved out a niche as a rugged, no-nonsense defender, often tasked with tight checking roles in the back pocket or on a half-back flank during a particularly bleak era for the club. Playing through the challenging wooden spoon seasons of the early 1990s, Brunton remained a regular fixture in the senior side, valued for his durability and defensive accountability under coaches Col Kinnear and Ron Barassi. He made 71 appearances over five seasons, helping to stabilise the Swans' defence during their rebuilding phase before departing the AFL at the conclusion of the 1995 season.
