Stats
Bio
Recruited from the South Gippsland town of Welshpool, Neil Chandler carved out a unique legacy as a quintessential role player during Carlton's golden era under Ron Barassi. A versatile ruck-rover and utility capable of tagging or filling gaps in defence, Chandler was often the "19th man" who came off the bench to make crucial contributions in the Blues' 1968 and 1970 Grand Final victories. He eventually cemented a starting spot on the wing for the high-scoring 1972 premiership side, securing three flags in just 76 games at Princes Park while playing alongside icons like Alex Jesaulenko and John Nicholls. Chandler crossed to St Kilda midway through the 1974 season for a brief six-game stint before retiring, remembered best as an understated but highly decorated contributor to one of the league's most dominant dynasties.
