Bio
Recruited from local side Ascot Vale, Neil King was a fringe player who arrived at Essendon just as the league faced the uncertainty of the First World War. Standing 175cm, he found opportunities limited in a competitive "Same Olds" lineup, managing just two senior appearances in his debut 1914 season. He added a solitary game the following year before drifting out of the VFL system entirely with just three career matches to his name. For decades, King remained a minor footnote for statisticians due to a persistent record-keeping error, where he was incorrectly identified in several authoritative club history books as "Norman" King.
