Bio
Born in the inner-suburban district of Hotham, Neville Heffernan was a local product who earned his opportunity with North Melbourne during the late 1920s. He managed a brief senior VFL career across two seasons, showing an ability to hit the scoreboard with four goals in his six appearances before transferring to Preston in the VFA midway through the 1930 season. While his time as a top-flight player was short-lived, Heffernan remained deeply involved in the game long after hanging up the boots, carving out a significant second act as an official. He eventually returned to the VFL as a boundary umpire, officiating in 67 matches to leave a lasting mark on the league well beyond his playing days.
