Bio
Recruited from Hampton Rovers, Nevin Paynter was a defender whose brief VFL career was defined by persistent health issues and misfortune. Originally tied to Collingwood, he crossed to Melbourne without making a senior appearance for the Magpies, eventually debuting for the Demons in Round 14, 1950. While he managed to hold a spot in the backline sporadically, his progress was severely halted in 1952 when he was forced to miss the entire season due to severe asthma, necessitating a temporary move to Sydney to aid his recovery. Paynter returned to Melbourne in 1953 hoping to cement his place in the side, but a broken hand limited his output. Despite being on the list during the period when Norm Smith was building the team into a powerhouse, Paynter holds the unfortunate distinction of playing 12 senior games without ever enjoying a single victory.
