Recruited from Norwood with pick No. 3 in the 1998 National Draft, Nic Fosdike became a staple of the Sydney midfield during the club's resurgence in the mid-2000s. He was a hard-running link player who operated effectively between the arcs, using his elite endurance to create space and provide an option for teammates clearing defence. While occasionally scrutinised for his disposal efficiency, his ability to accumulate possession and his defensive work rate made him a vital component of Paul Roos' disciplined system.

Fosdike's career is best defined by his performance in the 2005 Grand Final, where he played arguably the game of his life to gather 26 disposals and help the Swans break a 72-year premiership drought. He remained a consistent contributor in the following seasons but battled a degenerative knee condition that severely limited his training output. Unable to shake the injury, Fosdike announced his retirement early in the 2009 season, departing as a premiership player and a Life Member of the Sydney Swans.
