Bio
Selected with the second overall pick in the 2008 National Draft, Nic Naitanui arrived at West Coast with immense expectations due to his unique athletic profile and standout junior career at Swan Districts. Born in Penrith but raised in Western Australia, he quickly established himself as a marquee player, redefining the ruck role not through high possession numbers, but through high-impact moments. His vertical leap gave him dominance at centre bounces, where his ability to palm the ball to advantage became a primary weapon for the Eagles' midfield brigade, while his tackling pressure and ground-level follow-up work set a new standard for big men.
A three-time All-Australian and dual John Worsfold Medallist, Naitanui's influence on the field was profound, though his career was punctuated by significant injuries. He underwent two knee reconstructions during his prime, the second of which cruelly forced him to miss West Coast's 2018 premiership victory. Despite returning to capture his best form in 2020 and 2021, a persistent Achilles injury prevented him from taking the field in 2023, leading to his retirement as one of the most recognisable and impactful figures in the club's history.
