Recruited from West Perth with pick 34 in the 2013 National Draft, Nick Robertson established himself at the Brisbane Lions as a combative, hard-checking utility. Primarily utilised as a small defender or a run-with midfielder, he became known for his aggressive approach to the contest and willingness to engage physically with opposition stars. While his intensity ensured he was a regular selection during the Lions' difficult rebuilding years, questions over his disposal efficiency and discipline—highlighted by a suspension for headbutting in 2017—often drew scrutiny. As Brisbane's list matured and the team rapidly improved under Chris Fagan in 2019, Robertson found himself squeezed out of the best 22, managing just five appearances in his final season before being delisted.
