Bio
Drafted by Fremantle with pick 24 in the 2008 National Draft, Nick Suban arrived with strong leadership credentials after captaining Vic Country in the under-18 championships. He made an immediate impression at AFL level, debuting in the opening round of 2009 and quickly establishing himself as a tough, uncompromising competitor. A penetrating left-foot kick, Suban was a versatile utility capable of playing off half-back, through the midfield, or as a defensive forward. His game was characterised by physical aggression and tackling pressure, traits that endeared him to coach Ross Lyon during the club's premiership contention window.
Suban played a significant part in Fremantle's most successful era, including an appearance as the substitute in the 2013 Grand Final. Although he was elevated to the leadership group at a young age, he ultimately settled into the status of a reliable role player rather than a star midfielder, often finding himself on the fringe of selection in the latter stages of his tenure. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season after nine years and 156 games, departing as a Life Member of the club before continuing his football journey in the WAFL.
