Bio
Recruited from VFA powerhouse Port Melbourne, Nick Bloom was a diminutive rover who made an immediate impact for St Kilda upon his arrival in 1951. Standing just 168cm, he overcame his lack of height with a sharp goal sense, playing predominantly as a resting rover or forward pocket who knew where the goals were. His ability to hit the scoreboard was particularly valuable given the Saints' struggles at the time; the club won only four matches during his two-year tenure, yet Bloom managed to average better than a goal a game in a side often starved of opportunities. Despite establishing himself as a dangerous small forward, his time at the Junction Oval was short-lived, and he departed the VFL scene at the conclusion of the 1952 season after just 28 games.
