Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 20 in the 1995 National Draft, Carter entered the AFL during Fitzroy's tumultuous final season. A prolific ball-winning midfielder with genuine pace, he emerged as a rare bright spot in the club's difficult farewell campaign, earning a Rising Star nomination and gathering 31 disposals in the Lions' last-ever victory against Fremantle. His promise saw him selected as one of just eight Fitzroy players to join the newly merged Brisbane Lions, but he found regular senior opportunities impossible to come by in a midfield depth chart stacked with future premiership stars. Seeking a lifeline, he was traded to Melbourne ahead of the 1999 season but added only three more games to his tally before being delisted. Carter eventually returned to the VFL, where he enjoyed a distinguished tenure as captain of the Bendigo Diggers.
