Bio
Nick Daffy arrived at Richmond via a recruiting loophole during the 1990 National Draft; while the newly formed Adelaide Crows held exclusivity over South Australian talent, Daffy's junior club North Gambier was affiliated with the Victorian country leagues, allowing the Tigers to swoop with pick 49. Initially making his name as a creative half-forward flanker capable of snapping difficult goals on the run, he stepped up as the club's leading goalkicker in 1995 to cover the loss of an injured Matthew Richardson. He later evolved into a prolific ball-winner through the midfield, earning the 1998 Jack Dyer Medal as the club's best and fairest player.
Despite his standing as a club champion, Daffy's tenure at Punt Road ended after an injury-interrupted 2001 season saw him fall out of favour with the selection committee. He was traded to the Sydney Swans in exchange for ruckman Greg Stafford, a move the Swans hoped would add experienced polish to their midfield group. However, the trade proved unfruitful for the harbour city club, as persistent knee issues restricted Daffy to just a single senior appearance in the red and white. He retired at the end of 2002, remembered best for his dynamic mid-90s form and his ability to transition from a goal-sneak into a genuine engine room contributor.
