Bio
Recruited by Sydney with pick 64 in the 2002 National Draft, Nick Malceski overcame significant setbacks to establish himself as a premier rebounding defender. Renowned for his damaging left boot and ability to launch counter-attacks from the back half, his career was nearly derailed by recurring ACL injuries. Malceski became the face of the LARS surgery option, a procedure that saved his career and allowed him to return to the field in record time. This resilience culminated in the 2012 Grand Final, where he bookended the match with the opening goal and the famous snapping sealer over his shoulder to deliver the Swans the premiership.
After a standout 2014 season that saw him earn All-Australian honours and finish runner-up in the club champion award, Malceski made a high-profile switch to the Gold Coast Suns via free agency. Brought in to provide leadership and composure to a young list, he struggled to recapture his best form in Queensland as age and the cumulative toll on his knees slowed him down. He played two seasons with the Suns before retiring in 2016, ending a 210-game career that is best remembered for his daring offensive drive and his pivotal role in Sydney's 2012 triumph.
