Bio
Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 59 in the 2011 National Draft, Nick O'Brien was a hard-running utility who alternated between the midfield and half-back. Known for his elite endurance and ability to find the ball at state league level, he struggled to translate his VFL form into a permanent spot in the senior lineup, managing only sporadic appearances across four seasons. His time at Essendon coincided with the club's tumultuous supplements saga, a period of instability that overshadowed the development of many players on the list's fringe. O'Brien was delisted at the end of 2015 and was subsequently named as one of the 34 past and present players suspended for the 2016 season, a ban that delayed the continuation of his career in the SANFL with Woodville-West Torrens.
