Teams

Recruited as a mature-age prospect from Claremont following their 1996 WAFL premiership victory, Nick Stone was a tall defender who made an immediate impact in the West Coast backline. He debuted at 24 and quickly established himself as a reliable half-back, playing 14 games in each of his first two seasons as the Eagles pushed for finals action. However, his momentum was stalled by persistent groin injuries in 1999, which limited him to just a handful of appearances over his final two years. His AFL career ended in controversial circumstances in late 2000 when he tested positive for a recreational substance; although the tribunal accepted his defence that his drink had been spiked and handed down a lenient suspension, the club had already delisted him prior to the hearing. Stone subsequently returned to Claremont, where he finished his playing days in the WAFL.
