Bio
Recruited from St Peter’s in the Geelong Football League, Nick Walsh was a local talent who spent three seasons on Geelong’s list between 1982 and 1984 without breaking into the senior lineup. After returning to local football and capturing a club best and fairest, he was handed a lifeline by Essendon, debuting late in the 1986 season. A half-forward flanker, Walsh is best remembered for a remarkable discrepancy between his night series and premiership season form; while he managed just one goal in his 11 senior VFL appearances, he famously booted a club-record eight goals in a 1987 Panasonic Cup semi-final against the West Coast Eagles. Despite that glimpse of scoring power, he struggled to cement a regular spot in Kevin Sheedy’s side and departed after the 1988 season to forge a successful VFA career with Werribee.
