Bio
Born in Germany during World War II, Niels Becker arrived at the Western Oval via local club Braybrook as a ruckman. Standing 189cm, he was given a brief opportunity at the top level, playing ten games across two seasons in the early 1960s, though he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side. While his impact on the field was fleeting, his post-football life was highly distinguished; Becker traded his boots for books and embarked on a successful academic career. He eventually became a professor at the Australian National University, where he gained renown for his work in biostatistics and epidemiology rather than his exploits in the ruck.
