Bio
Recruited from Dookie College in the Goulburn Valley, Noel Doherty was a versatile utility whose VFL career was heavily curtailed by the Second World War. After breaking into the Richmond side in 1943, his tenure at Punt Road was interrupted by his service in the Royal Australian Navy. While stationed in Darwin, he maintained his football connection by captain-coaching the Navy team, eventually returning to Melbourne to play a solitary final game for the Tigers in the opening round of 1945. Unable to cement a long-term spot in the senior lineup, he crossed to the VFA to play for Brunswick before finishing his career in suburban and country leagues, including a stint as assistant coach for Nathalia.
