Bio
Recruited from Doutta Stars via the Essendon reserves, Noel McKernan was a durable utility best remembered today as the father of North Melbourne champion Corey and AFL forward Shaun. Standing just 175cm—in stark contrast to his tall, key-position sons—McKernan crossed to Arden Street in 1966 seeking greater opportunity but mostly plied his trade in the lower grades as a rover and back pocket. While his senior VFL career was limited to 11 appearances, he featured in North's 1966 Night Series victory and 1967 reserves flag before transferring to the VFA midway through 1968. McKernan subsequently enjoyed significant success at Preston, playing a vital role in the Bullants' back-to-back premiership sides in 1968 and 1969 under renowned coach Alan Joyce.
