Bio
A talented Tasmanian recruit plucked from an apple orchard in Waterloo, Noel Mewett joined the Blues from TFL club Hobart after winning their 1968 best and fairest. Though undersized for a key position, he had played centre half-forward in Tasmania but operated primarily as a half-forward flanker at Princes Park, showing promise with a three-goal haul against St Kilda in just his third senior appearance. However, his VFL career was abruptly ended by a combination of National Service and a horrific car accident in March 1970; while driving to the Puckapunyal army base, his vehicle was forced off the road and down a cliff, resulting in severe injuries including a smashed hip and punctured lungs. Unable to return to the elite level, he eventually recovered to dominate Tasmanian country football with Kermandie before establishing a successful post-football career as a property developer.
