Recruited from Sandgate in Queensland, Noel Orange arrived at South Melbourne with a glowing reputation as the reigning Grogan Medalist, having been crowned the best player in the QAFL in 1964. The skilled rover moved south to test his ability in the VFL, breaking into the senior lineup during the 1965 season to add depth to the Swans' midfield rotation. While he possessed the ball-winning ability and agility that dominated the northern state leagues, his time in Victoria was ultimately short-lived, yielding 24 appearances over two seasons at the Lake Oval. He remains best remembered as a pioneer for Queensland football talent, eventually earning induction into his home state's Hall of Fame, with his brief VFL stint serving as a notable chapter in a decorated state league career.
