Bio
Recruited from Stawell in the Wimmera, Noel Raitt was a strong-bodied utility who could operate as a vigorous half-forward, defender, or relief ruckman. He made an immediate impression at Windy Hill, using his 188cm frame to imposing effect and winning Essendon's Best First Year Player award in 1963. Despite that breakout debut season, Raitt struggled to replicate his form the following year and left the VFL to pursue coaching opportunities after just 18 games. He went on to forge a distinguished career outside the major league, notably as captain-coach of East Devonport where his performances earned him selection for Tasmania at the 1966 Hobart Carnival. Raitt later played as far afield as Papua New Guinea before eventually returning to coach in his home town of Stawell.
