Bio
A scion of Western Australia's most famous footballing family, Norm Doig was the son of East Fremantle pioneer John "Hooky" Doig and the first cousin of legendary goalkicker George Doig. He established himself as a premier defender in the WAFL, renowned as a tenacious back pocket who could turn defence into attack with his dashing clearances and determined ball-winning. His VFL career was a fleeting cameo, consisting of just two appearances for Essendon in the middle of the 1939 season while he was based in Melbourne, before he returned to the West the following year. Doig ultimately played 138 games for "Old Easts," cementing his place in a dynasty that is immortalised today by the naming of the Fremantle Dockers' best and fairest award.
