Bio
Standing at a towering 196cm—an imposing height for the mid-1960s—Norm Gordes was a ruckman recruited from East Sandringham who offered a significant aerial presence for Hawthorn. He initially broke into the senior side wearing the number 39 guernsey, operating as a developing tall for two seasons before switching to number 8 and shouldering a heavier workload in 1967. During that final year, he managed a career-high 11 appearances, stepping up in the ruck division for a Hawks outfit that was struggling near the bottom of the ladder. Unable to cement a long-term tenure at Glenferrie Oval as the club began rebuilding toward its golden era, Gordes departed the VFL after three seasons and later continued his football journey with a brief stint at Oakleigh in the VFA.
