Born in Carlton North, Norm Henderson was a diminutive forward who made a brief cameo for Melbourne during the 1920 VFL season. Standing just 173cm, he debuted as a 19-year-old and showed immediate aptitude in front of the sticks, booting two goals across his two senior appearances. Despite this ability to hit the scoreboard, Henderson struggled to secure a permanent place in the Redlegs' lineup and did not feature at senior level during the 1921 season. Seeking regular football, he was cleared to Hawthorn in May 1922, continuing his career in the VFA prior to the Hawks' entry into the major league.
