Teams

Recruited from the strong Beverley junior program, Norm McDougall arrived at Melbourne as a highly touted prospect, with several league clubs having chased his signature after he starred in the 1912 junior finals. A defender by trade, he earned immediate selection for the Redlegs, making his debut in the opening round of the 1913 season against Collingwood at the MCG. He became a fixture in the back half for the majority of the year, stationed primarily across half-back where he helped repel opposition attacks in a struggling side. Despite the significant interest surrounding his arrival and a consistent run of games, McDougall's time in the VFL was ultimately fleeting, restricted to a single season of ten matches before he exited the league.
