Teams

Recruited from local club North Footscray, Norm Mitchell was a homegrown talent who earned his opportunity with the Bulldogs during the 1969 season. Standing 178cm, he operated as a utility or flanker with a distinct preference for moving the ball by foot, recording 36 kicks against just three handballs in his short stint. He showed flashes of ability, gathering a career-high 18 disposals in a single match and registering his only VFL goal, but found it difficult to retain his place in a side led by captain-coach Ted Whitten. Mitchell made five senior appearances in total before falling out of contention, his career serving as a classic example of a local zone recruit who briefly reached the top tier before returning to lower levels.
