Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League, Norm Raines was a goal-kicking forward who joined St Kilda during the uncertain early years of the Second World War. He showed immediate promise in attack, maintaining a near goal-a-game strike rate across his first two seasons at the Junction Oval. Like many players of his generation, his career momentum was halted by the conflict, resulting in him missing the entire 1942 season as the league grappled with player shortages and wartime restrictions. Raines returned to the Saints for a brief cameo in 1943 before his VFL tenure concluded, eventually returning to the Bendigo region as one of many country footballers whose prime years were fragmented by the war.
