Bio
Born Norman Schroeter before adopting the surname Sexton, this wingman’s career was defined by a complicated administrative dispute that severely curtailed his time at the elite level. After debuting with Carlton in 1924 for three early-season matches, Sexton returned to the VFA with Coburg without securing a formal clearance, a decision that eventually resulted in a draconian three-year suspension from the VFL. He became a consistent performer in the Association until pneumonia and the suspension interrupted his career, but he eventually gained a reprieve from the Permits Committee in July 1931. Sexton managed one final VFL appearance for Footscray later that year before transitioning into a successful country football tenure, notably captain-coaching Deniliquin to a premiership in 1933.
