A local Richmond product who curiously began his career at St Kilda, Norm Turnbull was a diminutive wingman and rover known for his steady decision-making and precise foot skills. His time at the Junction Oval ended acrimoniously after falling out of favour with the Saints' committee, prompting a transfer to Punt Road for the 1921 season. The move sparked immediate drama when he was suspended for four weeks for striking a former teammate in his first encounter against his old club, but he returned to the lineup just in time to cement his place in Tigers folklore. In a fitting finish to a turbulent year, Turnbull booted the premiership-winning goal in the 1921 Grand Final against Carlton, securing back-to-back flags for Richmond.
