Bio
Recruited from Collegian Amateurs and the son of Wesley College's first president, Norm Waugh was a diminutive but deadly goalsneak who bridged the gap between the VFA and VFL eras. Renowned for his booming long drop kick, he topped the VFA goalkicking list in 1896 before etching his name in history as Essendon's leading scorer during their inaugural VFL premiership campaign in 1897. Waugh played a vital role in the club's early dominance, booting 30 goals in just 23 games, but his time at the top level was fleeting. He retired after the 1898 season to pursue a business career in South Africa, leaving the game with a remarkable strike rate and a premiership medallion.
