Recruited from Granya in the Tallangatta and District Football League, Norm "Bunny" Webb arrived at Footscray as a mature-age prospect who had already played senior football with South Sydney during his wartime service. He made an immediate impact at the Western Oval as a half-forward and centreman, debuting in Round 5 of 1947 and playing 15 consecutive games in his first season. Despite polling respectable Brownlow Medal votes during his three-year stint, Webb eventually returned to the bush, where he cemented a unique legacy as a country football icon. He holds the distinction of being the only player to win best and fairest medals in four separate country competitions: the Mitta Valley, Tallangatta & District, Ovens & Murray, and Hume leagues.
