Bio
Born into a prominent local family as the son of a Geelong mayor, Norman Belcher was a former Geelong Grammar captain whose league career was defined by military interruptions rather than on-field consistency. He debuted for the Pivotonians in 1899 but soon put football on hold to serve with the Australian Commonwealth Horse in the Second Boer War. Upon returning to Victoria, Belcher found it difficult to cement a senior spot, crossing to Essendon for a brief two-game stint in 1904 that failed to yield a permanent place in the side. Frequently confused with the famous but unrelated Tasmanian Belcher brothers (Vic and Allan), Norman eventually drifted back to Geelong for a final handful of appearances before retiring to establish himself as a local auctioneer and serving his country again during World War I.
