Bio
The son of world champion pole vaulter Dmitri Markov, Oleg Markov arrived at Richmond via pick 50 in the 2015 National Draft, blessed with elite athletic traits but raw football craft. While he displayed potential as a rebounding defender, he found himself on the fringe of the Tigers' premiership dynasty, eventually requesting a trade to Gold Coast in 2021 in search of regular senior football. After two seasons with the Suns ended in delisting, Markov was handed a career lifeline by Collingwood during the 2023 pre-season supplemental selection period, where he immediately thrived in the high-pressure environment. Renowned for his line-breaking speed and dashing run off half-back, he became an integral part of the Magpies' defensive unit, securing the 2023 premiership that had eluded him at Punt Road and establishing himself as an energetic cult hero within the side.
