Bio
Oliver Bartal emerged as a draft bolter late in the 2026 season for the Sandringham Dragons. After missing selection for the Vic Metro squad, the promising defender found a rich vein of form in the Coates Talent League. His standout performances in the second half of the year cemented his place in Sandringham's backline during their finals campaign. Bartal's late-season spike in form caught the eye of recruiters, earning him a late call-up to the Victorian State Draft Combine. He made the most of the opportunity, recording top-ten state results in the agility test, 20m sprint and vertical jumps to highlight his impressive athletic profile.
Standing at 190cm, Bartal operates effectively as an intercept defender who impacts contests both in the air and at ground level. Scouts have praised his ability to read the play, take clean one-grab marks and lock down opponents with strong tackling pressure. He also possesses an attacking mindset, often looking to take the game on with his run and driving left-foot kicking out of the back half. Although he was not in the initial draft conversation, Bartal is now generating interest as a versatile defensive prospect for AFL clubs.
