Bio
A decorated World War I pilot who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Orville Lamplough arrived at St Kilda with a background vastly different from the typical recruit. Born in the Victorian country town of Donald and scouted while playing locally in Melbourne after his return from service, "Lampy" operated as a follower and forward, utilising the natural athleticism that had made him a standout schoolboy sportsman. However, his time at the elite level was heavily restricted by a recurring leg injury, believed to be the lingering result of a wound sustained during the Battle of Pozières. Managing just seven games across two seasons, he eventually departed the VFL to play for Elsternwick, where he went on to feature in an amateur premiership side.
