Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from the Casey Scorpions via the 2017 Rookie Draft, Oscar McInerney developed from a raw talent into one of the competition's most effective ruckmen. Initially serving an apprenticeship under Stefan Martin, the 204cm giant affectionately known as "The Big O" eventually assumed the mantle as Brisbane's primary ruck. He was renowned for his proficient tap work and imposing physical presence, often using his size to take contested marks around the ground or drift forward to impact the scoreboard, becoming a structural pillar during the Lions' resurgence under Chris Fagan.
McInerney's legacy at Brisbane is defined by a moment of selfless exertion during the 2024 finals series. In the Preliminary Final, he sustained a severe shoulder dislocation but continued to compete, helping secure the win before being medically ruled out of the Grand Final the following week. While he missed playing in the premiership victory he helped orchestrate, his sacrifice cemented his status as a club hero. He returned for a final campaign in 2025, departing the Lions as a beloved figure who exemplified the team-first culture of their successful era.
