Bio
Recruited from St Patrick’s College in Sale, Owen Zinko was a rover and winger who faced the difficult task of breaking into Norm Smith’s powerhouse Melbourne lineup during the tail end of the club's golden era. His transition to senior football was initially hampered by a dislocated shoulder suffered in a practice match, though he eventually broke through for a debut in Round 5, 1963 against Collingwood. Finding it difficult to cement a spot in a midfield stacked with premiership veterans, Zinko managed just two more senior appearances the following season. His VFL career ended on a notable personal high in Round 11, 1964, where he booted three goals against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval. Seeking greater opportunity, he transferred to Fitzroy for the 1965 season but failed to add to his senior game tally.
