Bio
Born in New South Wales—a rarity for Victorian footballers of the nineteenth century—Percy "Jim" Park arrived at Essendon via junior club Union Jack and a stint with Carlton's VFA side. He featured six times in the league’s inaugural 1897 season, playing as a defender for the powerhouse "Same Olds," but the formidable depth of the eventual premiership lineup saw him squeezed out of the side prior to the round-robin finals series. Seeking greater opportunity after missing out on the flag, Park transferred to St Kilda in 1899, trading the league's strongest club for its weakest as the Saints endured a winless campaign. A solicitor by profession, he retired from top-level football at the turn of the century to establish a legal practice in Mildura, where he became a prominent community figure before dying of pneumonia at just 44.
